Coupling

Coupling marks an important methodological turning point in Lin Wu’s curatorial practice. Rather than treating artworks, technologies, institutions and audiences as separate elements, the exhibition approached curating as the organisation of relationships between systems. “Coupling” describes a condition in which different structures—technology and body, space and institution, media and perception, knowledge and environment, individual and collective—do not simply coexist, but actively shape one another. Through these intersections, the exhibition explored how cultural, educational and technological systems are continuously reconfigured under changing social conditions. For Wu, the exhibition therefore becomes not a container for completed works, but a coupling apparatus: a temporary structure in which different forms of knowledge, experience and participation can be brought into relation, negotiated and tested. This project established the conceptual foundation for his later PDCP research and his continuing investigation into exhibitions as public learning infrastructures.
